Annapurna Base Camp located at 4,130 m / 13,629 ft high, one of the few treks in and around Himalaya region where high altitude effect is less. As walk gains elevation gradually and slowly with overnights stop in nice lodge where one gets acclimatize on daily walks before reaching the main destination at Annapurna base camp.
Annapurna Base Camp and Sanctuary trekking with several options to choose as per your interest and duration of holiday in Nepal, where one can take drive for several hours to reach the starting point of trek and then heading towards Annapurna base camp and back on the same route for short trek to base camp.
The other longer route adding scenic walk to Ghorepani and Poon Hill to continue towards Annapurna base camp which is of 10-11 days trekking Pokhara to Pokhara, the other routes is doing a short circuit of 6-8 days times walking back on alternative routes to reach back at scenic Pokhara.
Season:
Annapurna Base Camp and Sanctuary Trekking can be done nearly all seasons of the year, where June to mid-September will be overcast with monsoon clouds and rains the area will be green enrich with exotic vegetation and flowering plants like Himalayan Blue Poppies (Mycompenses) and other colorful wild flowers.
The best would be from March to May when more wild flowers in full bloom including the national flower of Nepal the rhododendron with varied colors includes magnolia, morning till mid-day time clear for views, but can get cloudy and cooler in late afternoon.
Temperatures pleasant in day time of maximum of 16 to 20 degree Celsius with minimum -0 to -05 degree C in the morning and night time at base camp and above 2,800 m high.
Mid-September to January mostly clear but can get very cold with chances of snow, October to November and March to April the high and peaks trekking season in this region and around Himalaya.
Requirements:
All trekkers must be well equipped with proper trekking gears which you can find in the list of Awesome Nepal and as per the season wise.
Trekking to Annapurna base camp and Sanctuary including other areas of Annapurna requires you to obtain TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) as well the areas of protected by ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) where all trekkers and visitors requires Conservation permits with fees.
To reach Pokhara from Kathmandu depending upon the itinerary days as per your time and duration either overland journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara on 220 k.m. distance highway or take a short flight of 30 minutes and vice Versa after completing Annapurna Base Camp and Sanctuary Trekking.
